Boundary Walk 18 – Tracing the Boundary continued

11th August 2022. Bridge over Ogden Brook, Arnfield Lane, Tintwistle, SK13 1HP, United Kingdom

Latitude: 53.486712 | Longitude: -1.976073

During a hot day, we gathered our equipment and headed out from Longdendale Environmental Centre (LEC), through Tintwistle and along Arnfield Lane, finally reaching Ogden Brook, where the Pennine Way crosses over a small stone bridge. We based ourselves there to test out a few processes, using the boundary area as our studio for the day. We wanted to see how a basic mark made by a roll of paper would work with the scale of landscape and also, do we need to place a physical mark to represent the mark on a map. The process provided some interesting images, but still undecided if the boundary needs to be shown literally. The water marking and manipulating the paper was more productive. Will (re)work on this paper sheet on our return. The cyanotypes collected from shadows within this space created further interest, and was another way of sharing marks from this area of the boundary.

During this walk, and whilst on site by the brook, we held several varied and interesting conversations with walkers and cyclists. Many stopped to view our work in progress and hear about what we were doing, adding their own thoughts into the mix. Finally, the heat got to us and we began our walk back to the LEC.
