Boundary Walk 15

5th July 2022. Reached Ogden, High Peak, Derbyshire, England, United Kingdom

Latitude: 53.487296 | Longitude: -1.968952

Today we had the opportunity to scope an archaeological boundary walk, which will be part of our ‘Tracing the Boundary’ – a curated season of live collaborations, special artist-led activities and workshops for visitors to Park’s boundary for the summer of 2022.

Archaeologist Tim Campbell-Green and artist Antony Hall accompanied us from the LEC in Tintwistle, as we headed up to Arnfield Farm, with the aim to reach Ogden or what remains of the medieval Ogden settlement. It was a day of full of multi-layered experiences, conversations & exchanges along the nw boundary. We viewed the inter-visible boundary landscape through a layer of hidden knowledge, expertly revealed to us by Tim. We enjoyed finding artefacts (well everyday Victorian pottery or glass) that recorded or marked the boundary walk experience for us in a way we had not tried before. Tim called them ‘archeological echo samples’. There were conversations around deviant burials at crossroads, spirt guides (this time in the form of a dog that had no owner) and haunted village pubs with the owners of the Bull’s Head in Tintwistle.
