Artist Micro-Commissions

We are excited to announce that we have commissioned as part of the GUIDEline project, two micro-commissions, to work alongside artist’s from Glassball Studio over the summer of 2022. Artist’s Tony Hall and Alison Lloyd will bring their practice to boundary of the Peak District National Park, using the Longdendale Activity Centre as their base from which to explore from.

Following Alison’s ‘Contouring the Boundary’ walks, we wanted to provide the opportunity for her to expand on her work with us and to allow for more time to investigate the fairly inaccessible part of the boundary that runs along Ogden Clough up to the area marked ‘Wilderness’ on the OS map. Alison will be leading a walk that will take in aspects of the more accessible parts of this boundary.

Artist Tony Hall will be using his time on the project to perform a ‘micro-boundary’ exploration, carefully divining an experiential cross-section following a pre-defined Peak District boundary segment near to Bottoms Reservoir. Tony continues, “I will document this process by collecting samples (microscopic creatures, plants, minerals, sounds) and explore how these things interact within this hypothetical boundary space. To manifest this otherwise invisible space, I will create boundary-generating devices: transmitters that feed on the site (using microbial fuel cells embedded within the soil). Although this idea may evolve, current thinking is that a field kit will be created through this process (consisting of samples, drawings, maps and instructions). This kit could have a dualistic function as a research document with the potential to be activated [or performed] through further workshops and events.

Workshops and walk details will be released soon.
