After our walk to the brook, we had the chance to view archival maps from a collection held at the LEC for United Utilities. The maps give you an understanding of the scale and endeavour of works involved in the creation of the reservoirs along the valley, to provide safe water for the area and the city of Manchester’s needs in particular. The maps text follows the contours of the drawings, the title pages elaborate in their design, the work involved showing the flourishes permitted perhaps in the mid 1800s.
