Boundary Words mark the 70th Anniversary

Boundary word photo submission

The 17th April 2021 marked the 70th anniversary of the Peak District National Park formation, following its designation on 17th April, 1951. The Peak District was the first of Britain’s 15 national parks. To mark this date we worked with Year 5 and 6 pupils and their families from Padfield Community Primary School and Tintwistle C of E Primary School. Each school was given a GUIDEline box which contained laser cut and 3D printed words from the original 1951 boundary description document. The pupil packs contained instructions and a map of the boundary.

The words sited along the boundary, albeit temporarily, created a large scale, remote installation, creating unique interventions within the Peak District landscape, making direct links to a mark made on a map 70 years ago.

We were overwhelmed by the response, and received over 100 photographs demonstrating the wonderful creativity of those who took part. We have shared a selection on the home page. We are still going through the submissions and will release more pictures over the next few weeks. The next stage is to select from those submitted to add to our touring exhibition and publication (due out in 2022). Details of where you can see the touring exhibition will be released soon.

Thank you to all those who took part!
