A fascinating day was spent with our volunteers, PDNPA staff and Judith and Steven from VoxPops. We covered why it is important to record oral histories, the issues around archiving them and why, and how to guide an interviewee through to create a successful interview.
We all had the opportunity to test and understand the recording equipment and then began interviewing. Conversations all began from ‘what is your connection with [Peak District] National Park’. They soon turned to discussing definitions of what word ‘boundary’ mean’t for those who live / work / visit along this part of the nw Park boundary. It was interesting to capture the personal responses and from this training, we have created a list of questions we and areas of interest for further investigations.
