Boundary Walk 19 – Tracing the Boundary Part Two

The workshop today aimed to create photographic lumen prints from material collected along the Peak District National Park boundary, which is a short walk from the Longdendale Environmental Centre (LEC). 

Following our Tracing the Boundary Archaeology walk, where we collected artefacts including everyday Victorian pottery, we wanted to capture the boundary through the plant-life found along its route, using the sun to expose an image onto photosensitive paper. 

We started from the LEC and took a short walk along the Park boundary to collect material for our lumen prints. Back at the centre our gathered material was laid out, forming a beautiful bio-boundary itself within the centre. This slowly diminished as the organic material was used for the lumen prints. 

Lots of experimentation took place, as we tried different photographic papers and processes to explore the differences made to the final print. The LEC was transformed into an exciting pop-up photo lab for the day, with the resulting prints growing into an organic exhibition of their own. 

We are planning on showing the prints in a GUIDEline exhibition later on in the year.
